I remember when I got my first phone back in the states with T-Mobile, I got a month of voicemail for free. My greeting went along the lines of :

You’ve reach D’s phone. You know the drill

That damned sidekick had the worst speakers, so I would pick up my phone and have about 30 voicemails, all which were under 10 seconds. It got to the point where I just turned it off .

If they can’t reach me by phone and they don’t tweet/facebook/email me, they won’t hear from me.

Can I PLEASE shoot the next person who calls and says “hey, whatcha doin?”

I couldn’t agree more. If you can’t leave me a message in 140 characters or less, then save it for an actual conversation.

Exactly. The only person I know who leaves ‘good’ voicemail is my mother, ironically enough, which will generally sound like this:

Hey, it’s me, just calling to see how you’re doing. Bye.

Or, in extreme cases, this:

Hey, it’s me, just calling to see if you got the parcel yet. Bye.

Simple, effective, and four seconds long. Perfect.

Talking/phoning is becoming inefficient and we all don’t have time. I remember the old times when there aren’t any answering machines. I still don’t even have voicemail on my cellphone (not to mention visual voicemail), that’s because if I can’t answer it, then I am busy. It would be faster if people who are trying to reach me just to leave a SMS or email message instead of saying, “Hey, Will, um… how are ya, just wanted to say … … Alright, call me, thanks bye.”

Sorry for the rant, but I feel the same way about digital pretending to be analog.
